Aqua Jump is a pool-based trampoline fitness class that delivers one of the highest calorie burns in our timetable, with none of the joint impact you get from land-based training. Standing on specially designed underwater trampolines in our heated pool, you will bounce, jump and work through choreographed sequences set to music that challenge your entire body.
The concept is simple but remarkably effective. Jumping on a trampoline on land already engages more muscles than running because your body has to constantly stabilise itself on an unstable surface. Move that trampoline into a pool and the water adds resistance to every movement. Your legs drive against the water on every jump. Your core works overtime to keep you balanced.
And your upper body engages to control your arms through the water’s drag. The result is a full body workout that feels more like fun than exercise.
Each session lasts around 40 minutes and follows a structured format set to upbeat music. Your instructor will guide you through a mix of bouncing, jumping, dance-style movements and strength exercises, all performed on the trampoline in the pool. The pace builds gradually, starting with a warm-up and progressing to higher intensity intervals before cooling down.
The underwater trampolines are stable and easy to stand on. You do not need any trampolining experience. The water comes to roughly waist or chest height depending on where you stand, which means you always feel supported and secure. If you lose your footing, the water catches you. There is no risk of the kind of hard landings you would get on a land-based trampoline.
Your instructor will show you how to adjust the intensity. Jumping higher and faster increases the challenge. Keeping your movements smaller and more controlled dials things back. Everyone in the class can work at their own level.
Aqua Jump works well for a surprisingly wide range of people. It is one of the best options at Iconic Health Clubs for anyone who wants to train hard but needs to protect their joints. The buoyancy of the water reduces the load on your knees, hips and ankles by up to 90 percent, which means you can get a high intensity workout without the wear and tear.
If you are recovering from a lower body injury, Aqua Jump lets you rebuild fitness and strength in a supported environment. If you have arthritis or chronic joint issues, the pool setting makes vigorous exercise accessible in a way that land-based classes simply cannot. And if you are in great shape and looking for something different, the combination of water resistance and plyometric jumping is genuinely challenging even for fit members.
The class is also popular with people who find traditional gym classes intimidating. The pool environment is more relaxed and informal than a studio, and the water hides much of your movement, which can make first-timers feel more comfortable.
Jumping in water amplifies the benefits of rebounding exercise in several ways. The water creates resistance in every direction, so unlike jumping on a dry trampoline where gravity does most of the work on the way down, your muscles are engaged throughout the entire range of motion. This builds muscular endurance and tones your legs, glutes and core more effectively than the same movements would on land.
The unstable surface of the trampoline forces your deep core muscles to fire constantly. Your body is always making small adjustments to stay balanced, which strengthens the stabilising muscles around your spine, pelvis and hips. Over time, this improves your posture, balance and overall functional strength.
Water-based plyometric training is also excellent for cardiovascular fitness. Your heart rate climbs quickly when you are jumping against water resistance, and the intervals between high and low intensity effort mirror the kind of training patterns used in HIIT classes. The difference is that your joints are completely protected while you do it.
The hydrostatic pressure of the water also supports circulation and helps reduce swelling. Many members notice that they feel less stiff and sore after an aqua class compared to an equivalent effort on land, which means faster recovery between workouts.
