What we do in Aqua Combat:

Aqua Combat is a pool-based fitness class that combines kickboxing, boxing and martial arts movements with the natural resistance of water. Using specially designed aquatic gloves, you will punch, strike and kick your way through 45 minutes of high energy cardio that tones your arms, legs and core, all with zero impact on your joints. This is one of the most unique classes in our timetable.

It takes the intensity and calorie burn of a combat-style workout and moves it into the pool, where the water provides resistance in every direction. That means every punch works harder than it would on land, and every kick challenges your balance and core stability at the same time. What Happens in the Class The class follows a structured combat sequence set to music.

Your instructor will lead you through combinations of punches, crosses, hooks, uppercuts and kicks drawn from kickboxing, boxing, karate and muay thai. You do not need any martial arts experience. Every movement is broken down clearly and the water slows things down enough that you can follow along from your very first session.

The aquatic gloves increase the surface area of your hands, which creates more drag through the water. This turns every arm movement into a resistance exercise as well as a cardio one. Your upper body, shoulders and arms get a serious workout, while the kicks and knee strikes target your legs, glutes and hip flexors.

Because you are standing in the pool throughout, the water supports your body weight. This makes Aqua Combat genuinely low impact. Your joints are protected even while you are working at a high intensity. It is an excellent option for anyone returning from injury, managing joint issues, or simply looking for a way to train hard without the wear and tear of land-based classes.

Please bring along:

  • Swimsuit or shorts
  • A water bottle (non-breakable)

Who Is This Class For

Aqua Combat suits a wide range of people.

  • Combat Fans: If you enjoy high energy classes like BoxFit or BodyCombat but want something easier on the body, this is a natural fit.
  • Injury Recovery: If you are recovering from a lower body injury and need a way to keep your fitness up while protecting your joints, the pool environment makes that possible.
  • Beginners: If you have never tried a combat-style class before, the water actually makes it more approachable because it slows movements down and gives you time to learn the technique.

The class is suitable for all fitness levels. Your instructor will show you how to adjust the intensity by changing the speed of your movements and the depth of the water you work in. Faster movements and shallower water increase the challenge. Slower movements in deeper water keep things more controlled.Benefits of Training in the Water

Pool-based exercise offers several advantages that you do not get from land-based classes.

  • Resistance and Calorie Burn: Water is roughly 800 times denser than air, so every movement you make works against significant resistance. This means you are building muscular endurance and burning calories at the same time, without needing any additional equipment beyond the gloves.
  • Low Impact Protection: The buoyancy of the water reduces the load on your joints by up to 90 percent. This is excellent for anyone managing joint issues, including those with arthritis or back problems.
  • Temperature Regulation: Training in the water also keeps your body temperature regulated, so you are less likely to overheat during intense sessions.
  • Faster Recovery: The hydrostatic pressure of the water on your body can help improve circulation and reduce swelling, which supports faster recovery between workouts.
