Abs Classes at Iconic Health Clubs are focused, effective sessions designed to build strength through your core. Depending on the club and timetable, sessions typically last between 15 and 30 minutes, making them easy to combine with another workout or attend as a standalone class.
Your instructor will guide you through a series of exercises targeting your abdominal muscles, obliques and lower back. Expect movements such as planks, crunches, leg raises, dead bugs and other core-strengthening exercises.
The class is deliberately short and focused. Rather than spreading the workout over a long session, the emphasis is on controlled movements and consistent effort throughout.
Exercises are primarily bodyweight-based and a mat is provided where required. Your instructor will demonstrate the movements and provide alternatives so you can adjust the difficulty to suit your fitness level and experience.
Whether you are new to core training or already exercise regularly, Abs Classes are an effective way to add dedicated core work to your training week.
Any mats or additional equipment required for the class will be provided.
Abs Classes are suitable for a wide range of fitness levels. If you are new to exercise, the short format makes it easy to introduce dedicated core training into your routine. If you already train regularly, the class can complement strength training, cardio, cycling, Pilates and other group fitness sessions.
Your instructor can adapt exercises to make them more accessible or more challenging, allowing you to work at a level that suits your current ability.
Your core includes more than just your abdominal muscles. It also involves muscles around your lower back, hips and pelvis that work together to stabilise your body during everyday movement and exercise.
Developing core strength can support balance, stability, posture and control during other forms of training. It is particularly useful for exercises that involve lifting, running, cycling and full-body movement.
The class has traditionally appeared under several names across our clubs, including ABS, Abs Attack and Core Strength. Although the name and exact duration may vary, the focus remains the same: a short and effective workout dedicated to building core strength.
At Smithfield, core-focused sessions have traditionally appeared on the timetable as ABS or Abs Attack. These are short sessions designed to work the abdominal and supporting core muscles.
At Dartry, the class is generally listed as Core Strength and combines controlled core exercises in a focused workout.
Camden Street has also offered Core Strength classes, with exercises targeting the abdominal and lower-back muscles.
Class names, times and availability can change, so check the Iconic Health Clubs app for the current timetable at your preferred club.
Because these sessions are relatively short, they are easy to combine with another class or gym workout. You could add dedicated core work alongside strength training such as BodyPump or Functional Strength, or combine it with Pilates or yoga as part of a more varied training programme.
