Prime Time.

PrimeTime is a fitness class specifically designed for older adults. Structured around the physical priorities that matter most as we age, including strength, stability, flexibility and joint health, PrimeTime offers a safe, supportive and social way to stay active and maintain your independence.
The class uses a combination of low-impact aerobic exercises and gentle resistance work with light free weights. Every movement is chosen to support real-life function: maintaining balance, keeping joints mobile, building the strength to carry shopping or climb stairs, and reducing the risk of falls. The pace is controlled, the environment is welcoming, and the instructor adapts every exercise to suit the range of abilities in the room.
PrimeTime runs at our Dartry location three times per week during late morning hours, making it easy to build into your routine.
Each 45-minute session follows a clear structure. The class begins with a gentle warm-up to mobilise your joints and gradually raise your heart rate. The main section combines light aerobic movements with strength exercises using free weights, resistance bands or body weight. The session finishes with a cool-down and stretching sequence focused on maintaining flexibility and range of motion.
Your instructor selects exercises that address the specific physical challenges that become more common with age. These include movements that improve balance and coordination, exercises that strengthen the muscles around the hips, knees and ankles to reduce fall risk, upper body work to maintain arm and shoulder function, and core exercises that support posture and spinal health.
The weights used are deliberately light. The goal is not to build maximum strength but to maintain and gently improve the muscular endurance and bone density that protect you as you get older. Resistance training, even at light loads, is one of the most effective ways to slow the age-related loss of muscle mass and bone strength.
Everything is adaptable. If a movement is too challenging, your instructor will offer an easier alternative. If you need to sit down for part of the class, that is absolutely fine. PrimeTime meets you where you are.

PrimeTime is designed for adults typically aged 55 and over, though there is no strict age requirement. It suits anyone who wants a gentle, structured fitness class in a supportive group environment.
If you are generally active but want a class that respects your body’s needs as you get older, PrimeTime provides exactly that. The exercises are effective but never aggressive. You will feel worked without feeling pushed beyond your comfort zone.
If you are managing a condition like osteoporosis, arthritis or diabetes, PrimeTime is structured with these conditions in mind. The low-impact aerobic work supports cardiovascular health and blood sugar management. The gentle resistance exercises help maintain bone density, which is particularly important for members with osteoporosis or osteopenia. And the controlled, joint-friendly movements are designed to support arthritic joints rather than stress them.
If you have been inactive for a while and want to start exercising again, PrimeTime is one of the most approachable entry points available. The pace is gentle, the instructor is attentive, and the other class members are in a similar position. Many members describe PrimeTime as the class that got them back into regular exercise after years away.
If you value the social side of fitness as much as the physical side, PrimeTime delivers both. The late morning scheduling and consistent membership create a real community within the class. Many of our PrimeTime members have been attending for years and consider the class as much a social commitment as a fitness one.
Regular physical activity becomes more important, not less, as we get older. The evidence is clear that consistent exercise helps maintain muscle mass and strength, which naturally decline from our 30s onwards. It protects bone density, reducing the risk of fractures from osteoporosis. It improves balance and coordination, which is the single most effective way to prevent falls. And it supports cardiovascular health, blood sugar regulation, joint function and mental wellbeing.
The challenge for many older adults is finding exercise that is appropriate, safe and enjoyable. High-intensity gym classes and heavy weight training are not suitable for everyone, and exercising alone on the gym floor can feel intimidating if you are not confident with the equipment. PrimeTime solves both problems. It provides a professionally led, group-based session that delivers the right type and intensity of exercise for older bodies, in an environment that feels comfortable and inclusive.
Dartry (Dublin 6) PrimeTime runs three times per week at Dartry: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, all at 11:00 in Studio 1 or the Move Studio. The late morning scheduling is designed to suit members who prefer to exercise during quieter hours rather than the early morning or evening peak times.
Dartry is located at 31 Palmerston Gardens, Dartry, Rathgar, D06 FX39, close to Rathmines, Ranelagh and Milltown. The club is open Monday to Thursday from 06:00 to 23:00.

Smithfield, Camden Street and IFSC PrimeTime is not currently on the timetable at Smithfield, Camden Street or IFSC. If you train at these locations and are looking for a lower-intensity option, our Pilates classes run at all four locations and offer similar benefits for core strength, flexibility and balance. Yoga classes also provide a gentle, controlled workout suitable for all ages and abilities.
If you attend PrimeTime and want to add more activity to your week, several other classes at Dartry pair well with it.
Pilates runs frequently at Dartry and develops core strength, flexibility and posture in a controlled, low-impact format. Many PrimeTime members also attend a weekly pilates session.
Yoga focuses on flexibility, breathing and mental wellbeing. The slower pace and mindful approach complement the more physical work in PrimeTime.
Aqua Aerobics takes place in the Dartry pool and offers a completely joint-free way to improve cardiovascular fitness and muscle tone. The water supports your body weight, making it an excellent option for members who find land-based exercise uncomfortable.
Iconic Mobility (at Smithfield) is a dedicated mobility class that focuses on increasing range of motion in your joints and surrounding muscles. If joint stiffness is a priority concern, this class addresses it directly.
All classes at Iconic Health Clubs are included with your membership at no extra cost. Book via the Iconic Health Clubs mobile app. We ask that you cancel at least 2 hours before the class if you cannot attend.
