HIIT Spin.
Minutes
HIIT Spin is a 30-minute indoor cycling class built around high intensity interval training. You work through alternating bursts of maximum effort and active recovery on the bike, pushing your cardiovascular system hard in a short session that delivers results faster than traditional steady-state cardio.
This class runs at all four Iconic Health Clubs locations and is one of the most frequently scheduled sessions on the timetable. If you want an efficient, no-fuss workout that fits into a lunch break or before work, HIIT Spin is designed for exactly that.
Your instructor leads the session from the front of the spin studio, guiding you through intervals set to music. A typical class alternates between work phases of 20 to 60 seconds at high resistance or high speed, and recovery phases where you bring your heart rate down before going again.
The intervals may be structured as hill climbs with heavy resistance, flat-out sprints at maximum speed, or a combination of both. Your instructor varies the format across sessions to keep your body challenged and prevent adaptation.
You control your own bike at all times. The resistance dial is in your hands, so you set the difficulty to match your fitness level and effort. Two riders sitting side by side can be having completely different workouts depending on how much resistance they add.
Our Keiser bikes track your performance throughout the class, showing your calories burned, speed, watts output, gear level and distance. You can photograph your results screen at the end of the session and upload it to the Iconic Health Clubs app to track your progress over time.
Our Keiser bikes will tell you exactly how many calories, speed, watts (output), gear and distance you completed during your HIIT spin class.
You can also take a photo of the screen after the class and upload straight to your mobile device via our app so you can track your progress.

HIIT Spin is one of the most broadly accessible high intensity classes at Iconic. Because the bike supports your body weight and eliminates impact, it is suitable for members of all fitness levels, including those managing joint issues or recovering from lower body injuries.
If you are new to high intensity training, the bike provides a safe starting point. You cannot fall behind the group or fail a rep. You simply adjust your resistance and pedal at your own pace. The intervals are challenging, but you control how hard each one is.
If you are already fit and training regularly, HIIT Spin delivers a focused cardiovascular stimulus that complements your strength work. Many members use it as a short, sharp session alongside longer classes like BodyPump, Functional Strength or Bootcamp.
The 30-minute format is a genuine advantage for time-poor members. You can be in, trained and out in under 45 minutes including setup and cooldown. For members who work near Smithfield, Camden St, IFSC or Dartry, the lunchtime and early morning slots make it possible to fit a serious workout around a full working day.
The science behind HIIT is well established. Short bursts of intense effort followed by recovery periods create a metabolic response that steady-state cardio does not match.
During the high intensity intervals, your muscles work anaerobically, which creates an oxygen debt. After the session ends, your body works to repay that debt through a process called excess post-exercise oxygen consumption. This elevated metabolic rate can persist for 12 to 24 hours, meaning you continue to burn calories long after you leave the spin studio.
HIIT also improves your VO2 max (your body’s maximum oxygen uptake) more efficiently than longer, moderate-intensity sessions. Research consistently shows that 30 minutes of interval training delivers comparable or superior cardiovascular improvements to 60 minutes of steady-state work. For members who want results without spending hours in the gym, the trade-off is clear.
The bike is an ideal platform for HIIT because it is low impact and allows rapid changes between high and low intensity. There is no deceleration phase like there is with running, no skill requirement like there is with rowing, and no setup time between efforts. You simply change your resistance or speed and go.
HIIT Spin is available at all four Iconic Health Clubs locations. It is one of the most widely and frequently scheduled classes across the network.
Smithfield (Dublin 7) HIIT Spin runs almost daily at Smithfield, with early morning, lunchtime and evening sessions available. Smithfield also offers “Welcome to HIIT Spin” intro sessions for members trying the class for the first time. All sessions use the Spin Studio equipped with Keiser performance-tracking bikes.
Dartry (Dublin 6) HIIT Spin runs frequently at Dartry across weekdays and weekends, with both lunchtime and evening slots. Sessions run outdoors (weather permitting), which adds a different dimension compared to the studio-based sessions at other locations.
Camden Street (Dublin 2) HIIT Spin runs several times per week at Camden St, including early morning, lunchtime and evening sessions in the Spin Studio. The Saturday morning slot is a popular option.
IFSC (Dublin 1) HIIT Spin runs multiple times per week at IFSC, including early evening and lunchtime sessions in the Spin Studio.

Iconic offers two indoor cycling formats, and they serve different purposes.
HIIT Spin is 30 minutes of high intensity intervals. The focus is on short, sharp efforts that push your heart rate into the upper zones and maximise calorie burn in minimum time. It is a structured HIIT session on a bike.
Revolution Spin is a longer, more varied cycling experience lasting 45 to 50 minutes. It follows a terrain-style format with hills, flats, mountain peaks and time trials, set to powerful music. The pace varies but is generally sustained rather than interval-based. Revolution Spin builds endurance and stamina. HIIT Spin builds peak cardiovascular power and metabolic conditioning.
If you enjoy indoor cycling, doing both formats across the week gives you the best of both approaches. For the full overview of spinning options, visit our Spinning Classes Dublin page.
All classes at Iconic Health Clubs are included with your membership at no extra cost. To book your place, download the Iconic Health Clubs mobile app and reserve your spot in advance. Spin classes have limited bike numbers, so booking ahead is recommended.
We ask that you cancel at least 2 hours before the class if you cannot attend, so other members can take your spot.
