BootCamp.
Minutes
Bootcamp at Iconic Health Clubs is a high energy circuit-style class that combines cardiovascular training, strength exercises and functional movements in one 45-minute session. Every class is different, keeping your body challenged and your mind engaged from start to finish.
The format is simple and effective. You work through a series of stations, performing each exercise for 20 to 60 seconds before moving to the next. Once the circuit is complete, you rest briefly and go again. This approach burns more calories than traditional cardio or strength training alone because it keeps your heart rate elevated while simultaneously challenging your muscles.
Your instructor designs each bootcamp session to deliver a full body workout using a mix of bodyweight exercises, functional movements and, where available, equipment like kettlebells, battle ropes, resistance bands and dumbbells. No two sessions are the same.
A typical class might include burpees, squat jumps, push-ups, lunges, mountain climbers, box jumps, rows and core work, all arranged in a circuit that moves quickly between exercises. The variety prevents your body from adapting to a fixed routine, which makes bootcamp one of the most effective formats for ongoing fitness improvement.
The circuit structure creates natural intervals. The work periods push your heart rate up, and the transitions between stations provide brief recovery. This mirrors the principles of high intensity interval training, which is proven to burn calories not just during the session but for hours afterwards as your body recovers.
At Dartry, bootcamp runs outdoors, which adds a different dimension to the workout. Training outside changes the ground surface, the air, and the environment, which challenges your body in ways that a studio setting does not. It is also a welcome change of pace for members who spend most of their training time indoors.

Bootcamp suits anyone who wants a time-efficient, high-intensity workout that delivers both cardiovascular and strength benefits in a single session. It is particularly popular with three types of members.
If you are short on time, bootcamp packs a serious amount of work into 45 minutes. The circuit format eliminates rest periods between sets, so you are always moving. For members who can only train two or three times a week, a bootcamp session provides a genuinely comprehensive workout that covers cardio, strength and conditioning in one go.
If you get bored easily, bootcamp solves the repetition problem. Because the exercises and circuits change every session, you never know exactly what to expect. This keeps motivation high and avoids the plateau effect that comes from doing the same workout week after week.
If you are training for a specific goal like improving your general fitness, losing weight, or preparing for a physical challenge, bootcamp provides the kind of varied, high-output training that builds all-round conditioning. The combination of cardio intervals and strength work develops both your aerobic capacity and muscular endurance simultaneously.
The class is adaptable to different fitness levels. Every exercise can be modified, so a first-timer working at their own pace can train alongside a regular member pushing at full intensity. Your instructor will show easier and harder options for each movement.
Bootcamp is a total body conditioning class. Unlike format-specific classes that focus on one area (legs, arms, core), every bootcamp session works your entire body because the circuit rotates through exercises that target different muscle groups.
The cardiovascular component comes from the pace and the explosive movements. Jumping, sprinting and fast transitions keep your heart rate in the upper training zones for sustained periods. The strength component comes from bodyweight exercises, weighted movements and resistance work within the circuit. And the functional element comes from movements that mimic real-life patterns: pushing, pulling, squatting, lunging, rotating and carrying.
This combination makes bootcamp one of the most efficient formats for calorie burning. The high intensity elevates your metabolic rate during the session, and the afterburn effect means your body continues to burn calories at an elevated rate for hours after the class ends. Research on circuit-style training consistently shows greater calorie expenditure compared to steady-state cardio or traditional strength training performed separately.
Smithfield (Dublin 7) Bootcamp runs three times per week at Smithfield: Tuesday lunchtime at 13:10, Wednesday evening at 18:10, and Sunday morning at 10:10. All sessions take place in Studio 1.
The Tuesday lunchtime slot is particularly convenient for members who work nearby and want a midday training session. The Sunday morning class is a popular way to start the week.

Dartry (Dublin 6) Bootcamp runs twice per week at Dartry: Monday evening at 18:15 and Friday morning at 9:30. Both sessions take place outdoors, weather permitting. Camden Street and IFSC Bootcamp is not currently on the Camden Street or IFSC timetables. If you train at these locations and want a similar high-intensity, full body workout, the Les Mills Functional Strength class runs at both Camden St and IFSC and shares bootcamp’s emphasis on compound movements and total body conditioning. At IFSC, the BoxFit class also delivers a similar intensity with a combat-inspired format.
Iconic runs several classes that deliver high-intensity training, and they overlap in some ways. Here is how bootcamp fits alongside the others.
Bootcamp vs HIIT Spin: Both are high-intensity interval formats, but HIIT Spin is exclusively cardio on a bike. Bootcamp adds strength and functional movement to the mix, making it a more complete full body workout. If your goal is pure cardiovascular conditioning, HIIT Spin is focused and effective. If you want cardio plus strength in one session, bootcamp delivers both.
Bootcamp vs Functional Strength: Les Mills Functional Strength uses barbells and structured lifting patterns. It is more strength-focused and follows a consistent, choreographed format. Bootcamp is more varied and unpredictable, with a greater emphasis on cardio and agility alongside the strength work. Functional Strength builds raw power. Bootcamp builds all-round conditioning.
Bootcamp vs BodyCombat: Both are high-calorie-burn classes, but BodyCombat is a martial arts cardio class with choreographed combinations. Bootcamp is a circuit class with varied exercises. If you enjoy following set routines to music, BodyCombat is the better fit. If you prefer a less structured, constantly changing format, bootcamp suits that preference.
