Find out what’s happening at your club behind the scenes from our club manager.
On behalf of the team at The Dartry Health Club, I’d like to welcome all our members back after the summer. We’ve been very busy behind the scenes getting ready for your return and we are really excited about seeing you all back at the club.
Club maintenance
Throughout the summer we carried out a number of upgrades and essential works to the club.
The showers areas in both changing rooms have had new ceiling tiles fitted with new LED lights being fitted. The shampoo dispensers and shelves in the male changing room have been replaced also.
We always strive to have the cleanest and best facilities possible for our members. Often we have to put investment into areas that might not be visible at first glance to our members but which are hugely valuable to our member experience. One such example of this was in August when invested €8k on 3 tonnes of sand to pool filtration s
Price changes
Over the last two years the business has invested over €750,000 in upgrading the club to bring it to it’s full premium potential. Having been with the club myself for over 11 years I am so thrilled to see the club excelling in terms of the value we offer and the experience for our members. As of September the fee for new members has been increased, inline with our sister club at €80 per month. Current members will not be effected by this price increase and can still avail of their current rate. This is a very positive step for the club and it’s future and I am so proud to be involved in it’s continued success.
National Quality Standard
In August we completed our Annual Audit for the National Quality Standard for health clubs. This rigorous audit ensures we consistently adhere to only the highest standard in health club management, safety, hygiene and customer service. We are confident that once again this year we will achieve the Outstanding award for our three clubs.
Class timetable
Our fitness manager Alex has just completed our new class timetable which is due to start from September 16th. We received some valuable feedback from our member surveys and I’m delighted to announce that we will be launching Les Mills Grit from this September. These HIIT classes are broken into three categories which are Grit Strength, Grit Athletic and Grit Cardio. Our trainers have been studying GRIT for the last few months and can’t wait to introduce it to your workout. Make sure to book in for these classes through our mobile app, Iconic Health Clubs which is available on Android and IOS. In the meantime here’s a quick glimpse at our new class GRIT and why we believe it is the best HIIT class in the world.
National Fitness Day 2019
On September 26th we will be running eight additional classes as part of National Fitness Day 2019. The initiative is to encourage more people, to get more active, more often. These classes will be open to both members and guests and bookings can be made at reception from September 23rd. So grab a friend and colleague and bring them down on National Fitness Day.
Staff Changes
I would like to welcome two new staff membersto the team. We have a fourth Dave who is joining the fitness team. Dave Ryan has been working in the industry for a few years now but has wanted to join the team at Iconic Health clubs for some time now and we are delighted to have him on board.
We would also like to welcome Pedro Candido from Sao Paolo to our club care team.
Finally, would also like to congratulate our trainer Suzanne Cantrell who is on maternity leave. She gave birth to her daughter Aoibheann earlier this month and both mum and baby are doing great.
We had another wildly successful year at the latest industry gold standard Nutramino National Health & Fitness awards scooping first prize in four categories and winning all the accolades for Gym Team of the Year.
Investment and maintenance
Throughout August we continued to improve the quality of our facilities. We have invested in a new recumbent bike and have also ordered aquatic treadmills which will be used for a classes later in the year.
Maintenance was also carried out in the male showers, the studios and pool during the month. Some of the equipment has been reupholstered also.
Kid swim programme
Our kids swim programme starts this week with most all of the spots are take. We hope to add an additional on Friday afternoons later in September. Dave has taken over as our Swim Coordinator with many years experience behind him. He can contacted at swimming@thedartryhealthclub.ie.
We will also have a new swimming pool timetable made and this can located by poolside and in each of the changing rooms.
Farewell and Thank you.
Unfortunately, we are saying goodbye to Eduard who has been part of our swimming team since 2016. Eduard has helped grow our swimming programme from the start and has set the standard we expect from our other trainers. He has finished here to become a PE teacher in Rush, Co. Dublin. He will be missed by staff and members alike and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.
Save the date
Our members Christmas party has been booked. It will take place on Friday 30th November in the new Iveagh Garden Hotel. We will have further details for you closer to the event. We look forward to seeing you there.
Investment and maintenance
Throughout July we continued to improve the quality of our facilities. We invested over €6k in a new air conditioning unit for the Strength Training Suite. The feedback so far has been terrific.
We also got all our equipment PAT Tested by our maintenance contractor Volt Electric. This allows us to take proactive steps to prevent costly and sometimes dangerous electrical outages which can affect our members.
We made a number of repairs to the equipment and facilities. This includes repairs to the Spin bikes, sauna, the pool and the lockers. We have also sent pieces of equipment to be reupholstered and hope to have these back early next week.
Kids swimming course
The new course for kids swimming is due to begin on September 4th. We will confirming places throughout the month of August with members getting first choice on class times until August 15th. If you are interested in getting your child started you can book in with one of our trainers for a free consultation. Please ask at reception for further details or email fitness@thedartryhealthclub.ie.
Club Hygiene
In support of our club care cleaning, I would like to ask all members to adhere to our gym etiquette and please think of other members by using a towel at all times in the gym. Please also wipe down after use with the anti-bacterial spray which is located around the club.
September Class Timetable
Alex and I will be working on the September timetable over the next three weeks. We have already received quite a few suggestions over the summer and if you have any please forward them to Alex via his email: fitness@thedartryhealthclub.ie.
I hope you are all enjoying your Summer and I look forward to seeing you in the club soon.
Yours in health and fitness,
Sean Gavin
New equipment
Due to the ever increasing popularity in our group exercises classes we have purchased new equipment for them. These include heavier weights for Body Pump and Strength and Endurance. Yoga bands for Yoga, Pilates and Synergise. We have also bought new equipment for our pool based classes. Our new Aqua classes have been a huge success, so we will be adding additional classes in the September timetable. If you have any suggestions for our timetable please forward them to fitness@thedartryhealthclub.ie.
Maintenance
In June we refurbished the front entrance of the club. New chip bark has been put down and we have cut back on most of the ivy and overgrowing trees. We also power washed the cobbles and granite slabs to give it a more polished look.
We have changed a number of the men’s showers and new dispensers will be added over the next week or so. New controllers will also be installed over the next two weeks. This will give a better balance to shower temperatures during peak times.
New additions to the team
There has been a few staff changes in June. Jim is our new lifeguard. Jim who is also a part time comedian has shown great enthusiasm since taking the role. He really makes a massive difference not just during swimming classes but also for the day to day running of the pool. Lucas who has been part of the club care team for a number of years has moved to a fulltime position as a group and private swim instructor. Liam who is studying Computer Science has taking over his previous position.
On a side note, I’d like to congratulate Dave and his wife Claire, on the birth of their first child Oliver who was born on the 22nd of June.
Maintenance
The heat exchanger arrived from the UK earlier this month. We spent over €10k identifying and resolving the issue and we are delighted that it has finally arrived. I’d like to thank the members for their patience and understanding during this time. We have also had our boilers services as part of our planned maintenance schedule. Read more
